ARCA-SWISS d4:
With the d4 ARCA-SWISS has again achieved worldwide recognition in high-end
tripod heads with a revolutionary redesign of the conventional 3D head.
An invention with worldwide recognition:
The ARCA-SWISS d4 head has been awarded the prestigious iF prize, one of the most prestigious and highly selective design awards worldwide. The jury of renowned specialists singled out the d4 head according to very precise criteria, such as the degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, durability and simplicity of its functions. The highly versatile d4 tripod head has been specially designed to cater for all types of demanding photography, in open air and in the studio.
Compact, elegant and robust design:
The d4 changes the design rules of 3D heads. ARCA-SWISS has eliminated the major disadvantages of conventional heads—their size and weight, and those annoying protruding levers—to create an innovative combined ball and geared head.
The elegant and refined d4 is machined from high-grade aluminium to ensure solidity and robustness: it weighs just 980 grams yet can support a load of 30 kg (66lb.).
Manual and geared movements:
The d4 head has been adopted by numerous photographers throughout the world
who look for the speed of use of a ball head and the precision of a geared head.
Each of the two axes of rotation combines manual and geared mechanisms.
The position of the camera is set up approximately using the manual control, and then the composition is fine tuned with the geared control.
Simple and instinctive use:
The X and Y movements share the same pivot point and have the same radius of rotation, which means their effect on the image is the same in each dimension. It also makes them easier for the photographer to understand and use together without having to make tedious corrections.
For greater security and ease of use, the locking levers and the gear knobs have different shapes, instantly recognizable when working by touch alone, to allow you to concentrate on the image rather than the controls. The time saved can now be better spent on your composition.
Dual Panning mechanisms:
The d4 has two panning mechanisms: a bottom mechanism to align the camera with the subject and a top one for precision panning once the camera is levelled. The top mechanism panning is manually operated as standard fit but the gp (geared panning) option allows manual or precise geared panning of the top mechanism.
